COMMITMENT and cooperation of all parties to fight tuberculosis (TB) should be increased. Therefore, the spread of the disease in Indonesia is bigger and more massive.
TB is a disease that one health problem in Indonesia. Big and extent of TB problem in Indonesia was exacerbated by an increase in HIV infection / AIDS is growing rapidly and the emergence of problems TBMDR (Multi Drugs Resistant / resistant to multiple drugs).
We have found every year about 500,000 new cases TB.Separuh include infectious TB cases, causing 100,000 deaths. Approximately 70 percent of TB patients are productive age. Prevention and eradication of TB is a shared responsibility between government, both across sectors and across programs and communities, including the private sector.
“To fight TB is needed commitment and cooperation of all parties together to fight TB need to be increased,” said Director of Direct Transmitted Disease Control Ministry of Health, Dr. Iwan M Muljono MPH at the press conference welcoming the World TB Day is commemorated every March 24, in Jakarta , recently.

“This national strategy has been consistent with international guidelines (WHO DOTS and the new Stop TB strategy), and consistent with the Global Plan for TB Control aimed at achieving global targets of TB in 2005 and 2015 Millennium Development Goals,” he explained.
He explained that the recommended strategy for controlling TB DOTS / Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse) itself consists of five components, namely the government’s commitment to maintain control of TB, case detection of TB among people who have symptoms by sputum examination and regular treatment for 6-8 months supervised.
In addition, the availability of TB drugs is routine and not broken and reporting system for monitoring and evaluation of treatment and program development. “Global Plan of TB control is supported by the six components of the new TB Control Strategy developed by WHO,” said Iwan.
New TB Control Strategy developed by the WHO, said Iwan, the pursuit of improvement and expansion of high-quality DOTS, case co-infected TB-HIV, immune anti-double against TB and other challenges, contribute to strengthening health systems, the same perception of all service providers, empower TB patients and the community, and to realize and promote research.
But, he added, there are new challenges which requires all parties to move faster and to strengthen the network of innovative services for TB patients with a spirit of partnership, both with various government and private sectors, as well as public institutions. “This is very important to support the program’s success in expanding and continuity,” said Iwan.
On World TB Day this year the plan was commemorated with a series of advocacy, communication and social mobilization to involve all parties to support the commitment to TB control.
Series of commemoration activities of World TB Day 2010 will be supported by social organizations, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that become government partners in TB control in the community such as PPTI (Indonesian Tuberculosis Control Society), PP Aisyiyah,
KNCV, NU, and other organizations.
Highlight World TB Day on March 24, 2010 was marked by a national seminar which took the theme as the theme of World TB Day this year, which is “Increase Innovation, Speed of Action Against TB”. The seminar scheduled to be opened by Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare (Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare) Agung Laksono.
Topics covered include access to the breakthrough efforts of TB services is universal, high-quality DOTS strategy services at all levels of services, TB control challenges in the future, and the mobilization efforts of community participation in TB control. In this event also signed cooperation with PT Jamsostek to include TB as one that will be borne diseases in Jamsostek insurance scheme.
The day before, namely on March 23, 2010, executed the launch of MDR-TB services in Indonesia. Services for MDR-TB patients has started since August 2009 in two hospitals (Hospital) ie Friendship Hospital, East Jakarta, and Dr Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya. Planned service expansion will be done this year to other areas.
